XEM8320-AU25P Choosing Ethernet IP for onboard SFP cages

I would like to stream UDP ethernet packets out the SFP+ ethernet cages.
In setting up the block diagram for the XEM8320-AU25P board, it appears I have 2 choices:

  1. AXI 1G/2.5G Ethernet Subsystem
  2. 1G/2.5G Ethernet PCS/PMA or SGMII

Is there an obvious choice? From my reading of the documentation, it appears that 1) is more full featured. Is there some limitation that I can’t see?

Is there a resource that may help decide?
