Hi, is it possible to simultaneously write to and read from the external SDRAM? I have run into a situation where this delay is critical and effects performance of the overall solution.

I think you need to provide more details. Are you asking is the SDRAM capable of full duplex or are you asking is the SDRAM controller example provided capable of full duplex? The Micron SDRAM can only be issued a read or write write command.
