Is there a way to access the I2C bus from the FrontPanel? I want to be able to send and receive arbitrary data to and from I2C slaves of arbitrary address using the CY FX2 as the master.

I do not want to have to use the wire/trigger/pipe interface to send/receive data to/from the FPGA and have the FPGA become the I2C master.

This functionality is currently under development and should be available in our next release. No date has been set for this release, but we expect something to be ready by early June.
