Coming from a Windows-centric design environment, I’m wondering if it’s possible to run FrontPanel on an Android device?
Not yet… Do you have a device in mind? Can it act as a USB host?

It appears that the Motorola XOOM can be configured as a USB host - what else would I need?
It appears that USB host capability on the Xoom is not available as supported functionality and is only possible using a “rooted” device.

So, what does that mean for the Front Panel USB interface?
It is unlikely that we would support software that requires a rooted, jailbroken, or otherwise modified commercial device to operate.
We would be happy to discuss this as a contract opportunity with you, though.
Android 3.1 opens the possibility to setup the device as a usb host:
So I guess its a matter of making Frontpanel compatible with the JNI interface or write it in pure java…

So, this means that you succeeded to connect an Opal Kelly XEM to an Adroid device?
What’s the procedure to install the device driver?
Thank you in advance,

Now that Android devices are:
a.) Able to act as USB hosts
b.) Ubiquitous
Will Front Panel support be available for them?
I would REALLY like to use an Opal Kelly on some Android-based projects (
